Former Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a statement by Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, January 2, 2022.
The situation means he’ll miss the cup match against Vannes on Monday, January 3.
Messi just recently returned from his home country in Argentina where he enjoyed Christmas with his family.
The 34-year-old forward is one of the four players who recently tested positive for COVID-19 at PSG, according to the latest round of testing.
A club statement said that Juan Bernat, Lionel Messi, Sergio Rico and Nathan Bitumazala have all tested positive for COVID-19 and are isolating in line with the appropriate health protocol.
The statement added that Neymar, presently injured, will continue to receive treatment in Brazil till January 9, 2022:
“Neymar will continue his treatment in Brazil until Jan. 9 with members of the Paris Saint-Germain medical and performance staff. His return to training is still expected to be in about three weeks.”
