The Nigerian Medical Association [NMA] has given the Buhari dictatorship a 21-day ultimatum to ensure the resolution of all the issues contained in a Memorandum of Understanding [MoU] entered into with its affiliate organs.
The affiliate members are: Dental Council of Nigeria [MDCAN], Medical and Dental Specialist Association in Basic Medical Sciences [MEDSABAMS] and National Association of Resident Doctors [NARD].
The warning to the Buhari dictatorship is a result of the Association’s meeting which held in Edo State to analyse the ongoing standoff between the dictatorship and NARD.
NMA said that it did a comprehensive review of the disagreement between different affiliates of the Association and maintained that no doctor will be subjected to any kind of victimisation for participating or not participating in the ongoing industrial action by the National Association of Resident Doctors [NARD].
NMA President Professor Innocent Ujah said in a statement that the Medical Association endorses in totality efforts by its organs to improve the quality of healthcare in Nigeria as well as the welfare of its members.
“In the event that the Federal Government refrains from implementing the Memorandum of Understanding [MoU], we shall convene an emergency meeting to review the progress made on the said implementation,” he said on behalf of the Nigerian Medical Association.
