Some armed men have invaded a divisional police headquarters in Arondizuogu, Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, slicing the head of the Divisional Police Officer [DPO] with a cutlass.
The attack, which occurred at about 02:00 AM on Tuesday, November 23, resulted to the burning down of the police station and killing of an Assistant Superintendent of Police [ASP].
It was also gathered that a police vehicle and an SUV belonging to the DPO were burnt by the gunmen.
The state Commissioner of Police Hussaini Rabiu was reportedly on his way to assess the extent of damage the gunmen inflicted on the community.
“It is a rough morning in Arondizuogu. The DPO was seriously attacked and his head macheted whilst an ASP was killed. They set the police station ablaze, including a Sienna and a personal Lexus jeep of the DPO. The CP has been informed and is on his way,” one source said.
Michael Abattam, the police spokesman in the state, confirmed the incident.
