The Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission in collaboration with a Kano-based Sharia Court have launched an investigation into the illegal withdrawal of the sum of N345 million from the court’s holding account.
The funds were withdrawn by persons not authorised to so act, officials claim.
According to EONS Intelligence, the N345 million was part of the money the Sharia Court deposited into its account as custodians in a case of inheritance which is still pending before the court.
Chief Registrar of the Sharia Court, Sheikh Haruna Khalil said the account was almost emptied, with only N9 million left in it.
The matter has since been confirmed by Dr Tijjani Yusuf, Grand Khadi of Kano Sharia Court of Appeal, who said the matter was being investigated by Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission
Reacting to the matter, Mahmoud Balarabe, Acting Chairman of Kano State Anti-Corruption Commission gave the assurance that the agency will ensure the culprits are uncovered.
Meanwhile, it was also observed that some computers in the accounts section of the Sharia Court were missing. Efforts to trace their whereabouts had not yielded any results as at the time of filing this report.
