Nigerian Police serving in different commands and formations across Nigeria have raised the alarm over the non-payment of their salaries for the month of November, 2021.
The officers, who spoke on the strict condition of anonymity, said that the delay in the payment of their November salaries has worsened their economic woes. They said several efforts to get their salaries even up till Wednesday, December 8, proved abortive.
They further indicated that a recent signal released by the police in respect of the delay in the payment of salaries did not indicate when the salaries for the month of November will be paid.
One of the police officers lamented the delay in releasing their salaries, saying:
“Please help us shout this loudly and clearly, the police have not been paid their salaries for November. Even the signal sent admitted this.
“All other security agencies have been paid except the police. What is our offence, or is it a curse to be a police officer?
Another officer who spoke on the matter disclosed that any police officer who reveals his identity will be punished and accused of revealing official secret.
“Economic hardship has crushed most of us owing to the rising cost of living. A hungry man is an angry man.
“The police authorities are seriously hunting for anyone who expresses him/herself. They say we are leaking official secret. They just want us to remain zombies, suffering and smiling. Please cover our identity.”
Another angry police officer lambasted authorities of the force, saying that it was lame excuse to not have paid police officers. He said the police cannot bear the brunt of leadership failure in Nigeria.
“Today is 8/12 and they have not paid us, how do they want us to survive when we are not engaged in other jobs? Or do they want us to go into crime?”
According to a signal issued by Police Authority in Abuja on Wednesday, December 8, it claimed that the delay in salary payment is as a result of the processing of funds at the Federal Ministry of Finance.
