On Friday, September 17, Police arraigned one Lekan Sebanjo before a court in Karu area of Abuja over claims that he insulted officers who were on duty.
The Police also claimed that Mr Lekan obstructed them from carrying out their duties. Lekan, who resides at Jikwoyi, on the outskirts of Abuja, dismissed the allegations.
Ayotunde Adeyanju, the police prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 15, 2021. He claimed that a team of police led by ASP Bukar Mohammed intercepted an offender in Abuja on the above-stated date but that the defendant came from nowhere to rain insults on the police officers.
“On August 15, 2021, the police intercepted a vehicle in Abuja and from nowhere, Lekan Sebanjo emerged and rained insults on the officers, thereby obstructing them from discharging their official duties,” the prosecutor claimed.
The prosecutor said the offence was in contravention of the provisions of the Penal Code.
The presiding judge, Anas Isa, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned to October 6, 2021 for hearing.
