The Government of the United States of America has called on the Lagos and Federal Governments led by dictator Buhari to ensure that the cruel abuses of human rights contained in the #EndSARS Judicial Report on the peaceful protests of October 2020 are addressed and the perpetrators brought to book.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 16, the United States Consulate General commended the #EndSARS Panel for its groundbreaking report, and said that it is an important step forward in bringing the killers of peaceful protesters to justice.
The report reads in part:
“We look forward to the Lagos State Government’s response as part of a process that represents an important mechanism of accountability regarding the #EndSARS protests and the events that took place near the Lekki Toll Gate on October 20, 2020.”
Recall that on Monday, November 15, 2021, the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on #EndSARS officially submitted its report of 309 pages to the Lagos State Government after months of investigating and sitting.
The report lambasted the Nigerian Army and officers of the Nigeria Police Force for killing peaceful protesters at the Lekki Tollgate.
The report also criticised security forces for preventing ambulances from rescuing injured victims of the massacre, an act which resulted to the deaths of dozens of the peaceful protesters.
The report has since provoked angry reactions from Nigerians who insist that the Lagos and Federal Governments must be held accountable for the massacre.
